Geoff Hoatson was called to elder law after witnessing his own grandparents’ challenges with aging. Several of his grandparents had to use either long term care or memory care, his maternal grandparents were financially exploited by neighbors, and a grandmother was sued when she caused an accident while driving at 83. His great-grandfather was subject to a disinheritance where he was given one dollar by his father’s "deathbed wife". Geoff saw firsthand how emotionally and financially devastating it can be when seniors go it alone. This is why he has dedicated his professional career to helping seniors and their families navigate the hidden landmines of growing older.
Knowing that he wanted to focus on estate planning and elder law, Geoff chose to attend Emory University, one of the top 20 law schools in the county, where he graduated in 2008. Following his graduation he took a leap of faith and set out to form his own practice (formerly Hoatson Legal) in 2009, in the middle of the Great Recession, later renaming to Family First Firm. Since then, Family First Firm has helped thousands of families navigate treacherous legal waters, providing them with peace of mind through a commitment to client experience and empathy.
In addition to his legal focus, Geoff is a registered Financial Advisor with his Series 65 license. He is an author (Next Stop: Nursing Home), has been recognized as a long-running recipient of the SuperLawyers award, and has led Family First Firm to secure a spot on the Inc5000 fastest growing companies list twice in a row.
Beyond building Florida’s largest elder law firm, Geoff is a self-proclaimed bookworm. He enjoys attempting to read multiple books at once, often leaving unsolicited copies on employees' desks and often recommends books to others that he feels will make an impact on them. He enjoys traveling and playing the piano, ukelele, and mandolin for his wife and daughters.
Family is the most important thing in his life and it’s what inspired the name of the Firm. Geoff’s constant goal has always been to make a positive change in the world one family at a time, by helping clients put their family first.
