About Us

Family First Firm Foundation (also referred to as “the Organization”) is an established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in March 2019. Our mission is to be a beacon of hope by providing peace of mind to those who need help. We achieve this by providing financial assistance to professional guardians and other professionals who offer pro bono services to low-income and destitute incapacitated persons and seniors living in the communities served by Hoatson Law, PA dba Family First Firm.

Mission

To provide peace of mind and support to those in need.

Vision

To help low-income and destitute individuals by providing grants to professional guardians and other professionals, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.

Funding

Our goal is to raise $100,000 over the next year to provide grants to at least 50 professional guardians and other professionals serving low-income and destitute individuals in Seminole, Lake, and Volusia counties

Beneficiary Organizations

The following organizations will benefit from the FFF Foundation efforts:
  • Vitas Hospice
  • One Senior Place
  • CenterWell
  • ADRC
  • Cornerstone Hospice
  • Advent Health Hospice
  • Orlando Health
  • Senior Resource Alliance
  • Department of Elder Affairs
  • Halifax Hospice

Challenge

There is a significant gap in the availability of support for pro bono guardianship services in our community. Many incapacitated individuals are unable to provide the financial information necessary to access essential services like Medicaid, leading to prolonged hospital stays and delays in receiving proper care. Family First Firm Foundation aims to bridge this gap by offering financial support to professional guardians, enabling them to take on cases for indigent individuals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Are Guardians Entitled To Compensation?

  • In the majority of cases, immediate family members are appointed as guardians, so they generally choose to serve without compensation. However, if your family decides to appoint a professional guardian, they would be entitled to reasonable compensation for their work. The court would review the guardian’s fee to determine whether it is reasonable under the circumstances.

When Do You Need To Appoint A Legal Guardian?

  • Loved ones who are incapable of taking care of themselves might need a guardian who will look out for their best interests. A court-appointed guardian is responsible for making legal, financial, and medical decisions for another person (the ward).
  • When minor children have lost both parents: For example, if your brother and his spouse both died in an accident, and you want their children to be under your care.
  • When mentally challenged adults need assistance in day-to-day functions: If you have a special needs child, you might want to appoint a guardian who will help them manage their properties.
  • A person’s cognitive well-being, medical status, ability to make decisions, or ability to take care of their own needs may factor into the decision to appoint a guardian.
